A compliance-minded reading room on PT-141 (bremelanotide), the central melanocortin agonist studied for female sexual desire.

THE LABEL AND TIME IN THE BODY

What does PT-141 dosage mean on the drug label?

The label gives an amount, a time limit, and one approved group. Those facts don't choose what is right for you.

What label facts come first?

A number on a drug label may look like a direction for you. It isn't. The PT-141 dosage on the U.S. label is 1.75 mg. The drug is injected beneath your skin when needed. One use is the limit in 24 hours, and eight are allowed each month. The label also lists at least 45 minutes before sexual activity [7]. Its approved group is women before menopause troubled by low desire that lasts.

Your blood reaches its highest drug level about half an hour to an hour later. Most of the drug leaves within several hours [7]. Researchers first used a spray in the nose. They changed to injections because the spray gave uneven levels [9].

You can learn what the label says here. You won't find a personal amount to take.

Which PT-141 dosage figures are on record?

The drug label lists 1.75 mg, injected beneath your skin. It is for use when needed, at least 45 minutes before sexual activity. One dose is the limit over 24 hours, while monthly use stops at eight doses [7]. Both Phase 3 approval studies, the large late tests, used the same 1.75 mg amount [3]. Earlier Phase 2 studies, the smaller tests used to compare amounts, tried 0.75, 1.25, and 1.75 mg [7].

How often you use a medicine matters. More use raises concern about darker skin, appetite changes, and blood pressure [7].

These figures came from the label and studies, but they don't pick what fits your health.

How does a PT-141 injection move through the body?

The approved PT-141 injection goes beneath your skin. Your blood holds the most drug within about an hour [7]. A label estimate says the small dose spreads through about 25 liters of body fluid. This math shows how far medicine enters tissue, not how much was injected. About 21% travels while attached to proteins in your blood. That movement isn't a danger by itself. About 65% leaves in urine, and 23% leaves in stool [7]. Your body breaks the peptide ring into smaller parts [7].

The ring lets the medicine keep its shape longer [7]. A 2025 animal test used a patch inside the cheek. Only about 26% as much drug reached the blood as with the injection [15]. Most didn't get through, and an animal test can't show that a cheek patch will work for people. The injection remains the only approved way.

How long does PT-141 last in blood and in one study?

PT-141 leaves your blood fairly fast. Its half-life, the time for the blood level to fall by half, is about 2.7 hours after a shot beneath the skin. The reported range was 1.9–4.0 hours [7]. Early studies with a nose spray found a similar 1.85–2.09 hours [7].

Desire may stay changed after your blood has cleared most of the drug. One small brain-scan study saw a desire change lasting as long as 24 hours [5]. The drug had mostly cleared before then, but a brain change may have kept going after it left.

So “how long PT-141 lasts” has two answers. Your blood cleared it within hours, while one study saw a day-long effect.

Which ways of taking the drug were studied?

Researchers studied three ways to give the medicine. The approved way is an injection beneath your skin [7]. Early work used a nose spray, but blood levels varied too much [9]. Other early work put medicine straight into a vein [7]. Those studies aren't a list of choices for you.

The 1.75 mg label amount is only for HSDD before menopause [7]. The medicine isn't for you if your blood pressure stays too high. Disease in your heart or blood vessels rules it out as well. A brief rise in blood pressure may follow [7].

A vial sold as "PT-141 research chemical" may carry a false strength on the label [7]. Use this page to understand studies, not to pick a dose.
